About Me

First, I am a child of God. This means:
  • I expect that you, as a reader, respect me because that I respect you as another beloved child of God.
  • I will, to the best of my ability, seek to love my neighbor whether my neighbor looks, thinks, acts, or talks like me.  Or really, whether or not they are like me in any way at all.
Second, this blog is much like preaching.  This means:
  • Preaching serves two purposes: to afflict the comfortable and to comfort the afflicted.  What you read here may make you think.  It may also make you question your actions/thoughts/beliefs, as well it may comfort you when you are sad/anxious/worried/angry.
  •  I'm not trying to pick on anyone. How you take what you read is your business. What I write is a reflection of love for my neighbor and the hope that my neighbor can learn from some of my mistakes and experiences.  I'd love to learn from yours.  If you've got them, share them in a blog!
Third, I'm a female pastor in my late twenties.  This means:
  • I look  younger than most pastors.  Yes, I know this and you probably don't need to inform me.  I believe that Jesus really doesn't care about this. (All pastors start out somewhere--traditionally, most started out at the very age I have!  Also, I have two degrees and tens of thousands of dollars in student debt that prove I'm old enough.)
  • I look different than most "recognized" pastors.  As a female I have different hair, wear different shoes, wear different clothes, a different tone of voice than most male pastors.
  • I try to ignore the fact that many congregations and denominations (and therefore PEOPLE) do not recognize my call as legitimate.  Jesus still loves those naysayers and, I believe, calls me to love them too.  (That doesn't mean I won't push their boundaries--Lord knows they push mine!)
Fourth, I am a wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and friend.  This means:
  • I matter to people, just like you do.
  • People, other than blog-readers and parishioners, mean a lot to me.
  • I have a large portion of life that isn't defined by the congregation I serve.
Fifth, I have hobbies.  This means:
  • I find God's love at work outside of the church.
  • I find God's people outside of the church.
  • Pastoring isn't the only way God calls me to be active and loving in the world.
Sixth, I feel that the above information is waaay more than  anyone should (or, should care to) know about me.
